Daylight Analysis

Good daylighting is not something that can easily be retrofitted into an existing building. Unless daylight is paid attention to from the early design stages, just like structural and thermal considerations, the building will most likely not develop its full potential for optimal daylighting performance. A number of different design tools are available, ranging from crude hand calculations to sophisticated computer visualizations.

OPUS energy provides you with enlightened solutions using computer simulation models for daylighting analysis and ensures accurate end-results. We went the extra mile and took light level readings in our office and then modeled the same space using computer software and compared the two. We concluded that we were able to accurately simulate the daylight levels as actually measured.

Execution Supervision

OPUS consulting engineers brings its clients this added value of accompanying their projects post design, making sure they are executed as specified and according to budget.

We can step in at the bidding stage to evaluate the technical and commercial bids and to recommend the mechanical & electrical contractors for award. From there onward, we can supervise the project execution, assuring at all times that the contractors are complying with the provisions of the contract by:

  • Reviewing & approving the shop-drawings, the as-built drawings as well as the equipment and material submittals.
  • Checking and ensuring proper site installations and execution.
  • Assuring and approving the testing and commissioning of all systems.
  • Attending site meetings to assist in resolving problems on the spot, in the presence of the project management / client representative and the contractors.
  • OPUS hence becomes the active interface between the Client / Architect and the mechanical and electrical sub-contractors, from day one till final handing over.

Commissioning

Owners are often making investments in their buildings based upon targeted performance expectations. The many components of a building that impact an owner’s utility costs, comfort, indoor air quality, and operational performance are complex and frequently do not perform as intended.

OPUS consulting engineers’ building commissioning services facilitate and validate that building systems function according to criteria set forth in the project documents to satisfy the owner’s operational needs.

We commission both our own projects and also act as a third-party commissioning agent for others.

Hence, we can intervene as:

  • Fundamental or LEED enhanced commissioning Agent.
  • Independent 3rd Party Commissioning Agent.
  • 3rd Party preparing Operation & Maintenance Manuals.
